I believe the V has slotted brake rotors, maybe not. But does anyone have slotted and drilled rotors on the XLR? I know the Vetts have them, and theirs may bolt right on our XLR's. Would there be any fitting issues? I don't know why the XLR's don't have them anyway. Its a nice dress up of the wheel compartment.

Yes, the V does have them--although I don't know if they'll fit an XLR without mods.

Galen,

That's my next project...I want the rotors to have a zinc coating so they don't rust like the factory ones. Will probably get this done within the next week. I'll keep you updated. :cheers

I feel the same way about it. I don't like the rust! I wash my car often and its seems the rotors are rusty because I don't get in there and wipe them off. I'm not that ate up. You did good on the stabilizer bar so lets see what you can do on this project! :)

Too Funny,
After buying a low profile jack to get under my V and engine silver paint, then taking off every wheel and brushing the rust off and painting the edges of the rotors, about a month later I hear a ominous screeching sound from the right rear. Sure enough the brakes are out at 11,000 miles and I down shift every chance I get. My dealer agreed that it was abnormal wear and did a complete brake job with zinc painted rotors and new pads. While I'm ecstatic, it sure was a lot of work doing that job for nothing. So you all will see the new Zinc coated rotors at BG.Galen,

I put a set of slotted / crossdrilled on my XLR when I first bought it. Here's the link.

Bob, I did all of the above on the RUF BTR and the hub extensions as well. There on 2 years now and look fantastic. I was going to start the disc's and all painting but decided to wait until after BG. I figured I'd ck all your cars 1st take pics then decide! jim

Thanks Galen! No trades yet but I feel there will be a V in my future within a year. The wheels are 18"x 8.5 Concept Neeper. The rotors come with a zinc dichromate finish that keeps them looking great around the hub area ( no rust ).

One thing to keep in mind, not that it's a big deal, but with drilled rotorrs you will get more brake dust on your wheels. If I am not misinformed the holes shave off the glaze that is formed on the pads as they heat up.

:iagree but they look sooooo good.:D Ceramic pads should eliminate the dust problem.

Sunburn...how is your brakedust...any issues?

elfred,You are correct, Ceremic pad are the answer. You cannot always get them but I see where they do make them for the xlr's. jim

I don't get too much more dust but I do get a brake growl in hard deceleration.

Hey Cubby,

I bought it all:crazy I felt like my wife does when she goes into Neiman-Marcus :glol Uh-oh.....sorry honey...anyway if these things get here on time I will install the rotors and standard pads. I want to monitor pad dust and stopping difference with new rotors prior to going to the Ceramic pads.. Scientific principle #12- one change at a time and monitor/analyze results. (Don't lose the forest because of all the trees.)

I know they will look good, cause they won't rust.:D

Elfred,
When you open the box they'll look soooo good you won't what to put them on the car. You might need to buy another set for the living room coffee table.

Hey Guys and Gals...I finally got my slotted/cross drilled rotors on today. They stop really good so far and brake dust does not seem to be a problem. Pedal feel is about the same. I will drive them about 1,000 miles and then install the ceramic pads to see the difference.

As it is raining now, I will take some photos of the car tomorrow with wheels on and on the ground.

Sunburn...you were right, they are beautiful!:thumbs Had to put on my sunglasses when I opened the box.:cool

Jim,

I will, I will! Just have to decide on what color...I figured to do it when I install the ceramic pads. This way I won't mess up my paint job. I thought red would be cool and I think that it was you or Galen maybe that polished the "XLR" letters with a jewelers cloth. Now that would look sweet!:D

Elfred

Yep, I spent way too much time trying to polish with polishing paste and a wheel. Jewelers cloth does just as well.

I used a 4" buffer on a drill and some jewelers rouge. It took about 1 min per side then washed off the excess with paint thinner and a tooh brush, then used brake cleaner on the entire area. I liked the Eastwoods 2 part epoxy paint. It brushes on and you dont need to mask anything. Well you do need to mask the letters just use a single edge blade to cut the tape to fit. Then peel off before paint gets too hard. I think they look great. jim

any up date and how the pads and rotors are after driving a lot of miles any issues with the rotors cracking and how they perform with the ceramic pads

I installed the iRotor slotted and drilled rotors with standard pads on my X one year ago and they still work great, no dust problems, even drove in snow and salt over the winter. Once the zinc coating wears off the rotors still rust but the rust does wear off after a stop or two, the zinc coating does remain on all areas that the pads dont come into contact with so they look good.

In my experience with ceramic pads on my BMW, I will never put them on another car again, there is less brake dust but its a bit** to get off, its like the ceramic powder is glued on the rims.
