Just wanted to show the engine cover and matching hood liner I noticed a while back.

Cadillac replaced both and when I went in for service after getting 'engine oil level low' on the DIC I noticed that the new engine cover is also cracked down the middle. The service tech was just under the hood and didn't say anything about it. At least the service writer was there when I noticed the damage. Another one is on order. Anyone else with a straight up XLR have any issues with their engine cover?

Where is the crack in the pic? Maybe its too tight? Most plastic need holes larger then the screws holding it or it will expand and then break. I have not seen or heard of anyone elses breaking. Is this the 2nd time it broke? jim

I think I see it. Notice the back-center high point on the right center ridge. It would look like an impact point with a small white spot on the hood liner (top center). This would appear to be a clearance problem rather than a cover defect. It is possible that the engine/cover is raised or the hood too low; or both.

One way to see any clearance would be to lay a piece of sticky paper or paper with chaulk line dust on it and see if any "witness" mark was seen after closing the hood.

This was the first one. They replaced it and the new one cracked longitudinally front to back on the right side. No picture of that one. But they adjusted the hood and it has not messed up my hood liner yet.
