: Trunck won't Open/Close
Montana 06-07-2007, 08:46 AM The trunck on our XLR won't close after pushing the button. It can be closed manually. It then won't open with the dash or fob button. We are concerned about how it will work with the top. We took it to the dealer who thought it was the valet button. NOT. They played with it. It then worked 3 times. Now the problem has repeated itself. Does anyone have any ideas? We are about to head out on a cross country trip (tomorrow) in this vehicle.
ocool 06-07-2007, 05:36 PM when I experienced a similiar top problem, the dealer read the codes and determined it was a faulty sensor. They gave me a brand new cadillac (not an xlr) to drive while they repaced it. It was just in for one day, and I've never had the problem again. Is yours an 07? Sometimes, things go wrong, but thats what the warrenty's for. It can happen to anyone, just find a dealer who has an experienced machanic to work on the xlr. It only took about 15 minutes for them to find the problem when I had taken mine in for trouble with the top.Bill :cool
standby 06-07-2007, 06:20 PM Diconnet the battery and count to 20. This will reboot the computer. It's worth a try. I've had luck with this method on other issues.

XLR28 06-08-2007, 08:25 AM Last night I went to close the trunk and the close button did nothing. After trying to unlock the car or have the fob in the vacinity etc I put the top up and got the trunk to close in that cycle. Subsequent operation of the trunk has been fine.
Also sometimes when opening a door it will release partway but not fully and I have to re-try to get everything to align so that the door will open. Since these are intermittent at best, I doubt the dealer could find something to address.

As said before, remember if you disconnect the battery, you have to reindex the windows.
popbigguy 06-08-2007, 03:16 PM My driver's side door doesn't open on the first try sometimes too. If I push the button again it seems to open the door then. I guess I've gotten use to it now, it just seems to come second nature to me to hit the button twice.
standby 06-08-2007, 06:15 PM Yep, forgot to mention that, plus a lot of owners don't know how to do that. Just for the record.
One window at a time...........window up, keep button down and count to 10. Window down, same deal. Yurika, it works.

Cincin 06-30-2007, 04:36 PM My dealer figured out my trunk/top was catching on the carpet in the trunk.
Easily fixed.

I have the same problem with my door. (2005). The first time it happened, I tried many times, occasionally successfully, but usually not. I drove directly to the dealer, insisting that they take care of it immediately, as I did not want to stand on the leather to climb out. Sure enough, after a few tries it worked. They could not reproduce the problem.
A few days later it happened again, and has been happening pretty consistently. It really is not a problem, since I have learned the trick - hold the button once, the door releases partially; release the button, then touch it again as your are leaning on the partially released door, and it will open. Maybe one day the dealer will figure it out, but, since I'm an MD, I understand how difficult it is to diagnose problems that always seem to disappear when the patient comes to my office.

The dealers famous saying is, "cannot reproduce the problem", and it's funny how we can.I have the same problem with my door. (2005). Greetings aerobat3;18213,
Just a quick note regarding the door opening and other little intermittent items with my 2005 XLR. I found in the end I replaced my Key Fob battery and many of the problems went away. It is an easy fix and worked for me. Let me know if this helps.

XLR28 07-14-2007, 11:32 PM Hey guys, I have noticed over the past week or so that my trunk has slowed down significantly. The car was in to replace the trunk solenoid since sometimes it wouldn't shut when the button was pushed and I asked the service writer who asked the mechanic. I got back that he couldn't adjust the speed of the trunk opening (nor my windows either - their timing is lopsided). I asked them to time it and see if it was within specification or not - no data. They operated the top a few times and thought everything was OK. (with nothing to compare it to aka another car or a time specification what can you expect?)
Tonight I got home and decided to record it in operation and you guys tell me if you think there is a problem. Cadillac doesn't.

Also when putting the top up the rear tonneau cover only latched on the driver's side, I had to manually put it in position or it could have really messed something up since the top proceeded on with its cycle.
standby 07-15-2007, 12:05 AM Nebraska? I bet your the only one with an XLR in Nebraska.
Seriously, thou................this is totally unacceptable for you to have to assist this deck lid up at all. Tell them to fix it or you want a buy back. And mention the lemon law while your at it.
I would be livid if they tried to give me my V back in this condition. I would venture to guess that they don't have a qualified XLR mechanic.

Fluid may be low, have it checked.
standby 07-15-2007, 11:55 AM How about the dealer checking the fluid instead of the customer.Fluid may be low, have it checked.
XLR28 07-15-2007, 03:41 PM plenty of fluid in the reservoir, my thoughts lean toward a leaky bypass valve or something similar. I am checking my service manual for anything obvious.
XLR28 07-15-2007, 09:42 PM Of course... Last night I took the video of it not working at all (just about) and today after tinkering and performing my visual inspection - its back to 100%. Trunk lid is no longer sluggish and the entire up and down process is back up to speed. This is why it is difficult to trouble shoot these cars - and any highly technical piece of equipment. At least I got its bad behavior on video so I can at least show the tech and service writer when it starts to act up again.

I had the same problem, it seems to be an early indication of low voltage, once low voltage occurs, weird things start happening, either drive for a while to fully charge the battery or charge the battery with a charger, once charged disconnect the battery for a few minutes, reconnect and your problem should go away, actually for me, everything seems to work better now.
XLR KEN 09-05-2007, 05:52 AM I had read that the key fob battery being weak could affect the door and trunk opening as easily as it should so I replaced the fob batteries (purchased from the XLR Boutique; great deal). Also, during the Rendezvous at BG, my trunk stopped working. The Martin Cadillac did some magic with a switch alignment and it's really good now. Thanks again to Martin Cadillac on a job well done. mswaim 09-05-2007, 09:15 AM We have already experienced a similar issue with ours. The trunk would open from either the fob or the touch pad, however it would not close. I checked the fuses, since it appears the closing function is on a dedicated circuit, but it was fine. I finally cycled the top through a full rotation (up & down) once that was complete the trunk worked fine. I assumed it was one of the postioning sensors.
