I just received my free updated nav disc for my 05 XLR. The one that came in the car was a version 5.0 and the new one is version 6.0. If anyone has an older XLR and has the original 4.0 version, and would like to have the 5.0 version, let me know. Its cheaper than the $199 they want to buy an upgrade. Jim

The 2006 Cadillacs come with the first 2 years navigation disc upgrades. About the anniversary date of your purchase, they send you a card and you call in to get the new nav disc sent to you. I purchased my 2006 XLR in 12/05 and in 12/06 I was notified that my first free update was available. I just called in, gave them my VIN and they mailed me the new one. For Cadillacs prior to 2006 they offer to sell you the updated disc for $199. Many of the earlier XLRs had version 4.0. If you have an early 2005 you may have that version. Just pull the disc out and it is marked on the face.

Chas,
You are the only one with an e-mail address in your thread at hotmail so I will remember. When I order it, I will e-mail you and get your address. No need to send magnets. This is a gift that keeps giving if you know what I mean. (find someone to rip some disc's and share them with members for free)

Chas,
Let me have your address so I can send you the 5.0 Disc. I tried to send you a private message but sometimes people don't get them or they don't notice that they have a private message.

The only city in NY state with that zip doesn't have a "n" on the end of it's name. I'm going to take that as a typo.

Jim,
I have an 04 Neiman Marcus and I guess that the Nav Disc is an older version. How can I upgrade without buying one for $199?
Bill

Bill, Find someone on the forum who bought an 06 XLR. When they get their free upgrade in 2007 get their old one. The 2006 model should have verson 5.0 and would be newer than the version that came with your car. Hopefully there is a forum member that has the ability to duplicate the disc and make them available to members so they don't have to pay the $199 for the upgrade. Jim

Jim, as far as I know you cannot duplicate a nav-disc. I have tried this once for a US friend stationed in Italy (drives a CTS V) but it didn`t work.

Hans, You're probably right. They would have some method to prevent copies being made to prevent people from making copies and selling them. I guess everyone just has to rely on the kindness of owners to pass the old ones around.

Jim, I wouldn't even think of trying to copy that disc. GM is proabably already mad at me. I don't need to piss them off completely. My bank account is small for fighting that kind of suit.

Bought my new V in early January; it came with NAV 5.0. So now I wait until January 2008 for NAV 6.0?

Will NAV 7.0 be out by then? So I will always be a year behind? Glad we are not talking about a kidney or brain transplant.

On a side note I was able to burn a copy of 5.0 with my dual layer DVD burner. The original sits in its case if I ever need it.

Glad to help out Charles. Your area may be up to date, but other areas of the country that are doing major building and putting in new roads will be effected. For my work I have to get a new Thomas Bros. guide every year or I can't find some job locations in my work van.Bob,

I called 877-628-3472 today to get the new nav disc for my 07 Escalade and 06 XLR-V. Did you know you don't have to take the disc on your anniversary of purchase. I was told I could receive two free per vehicle, as long as I still owned the the vehicle, when I wanted them. ( for example every other year) As someone pointed out ,the info dosn't change very much each year. If someone plans on keeping their XLR for a while this might be useful information. Tim

ALSO, IF YOU BOUGHT A USED XLR OR XLR-V THAT WAS CADILLAC CERTIFIED, they will give you the latest NAV Disc as well.
