Years ago there was a headlight alignment unit you put in front of your headlights to check alignment.

I have been told now that no one uses them anymore.
They just drive the car up to a wall and make the lights the same height.

Now I can go along with most of this thinking but I had BOTH of my headlights replaced. So where is the starting point. I can make both the same height but what if the one I am adjusting the other one to it to high or to low to being with.
There must be some starting point... Car has to me "X" number of feet from the wall and the LIGHT should hit "X" number of inch's up from the floor.

Anyone know?:confused

I know I can adjust the lights up and down but I am not sure if you can adjust them side to side.

After my front end crunch a year ago, and both fenders grill, lights, etc where all replaced, I find myself wondering what happened to my wonderful lights. I pulled it close to a wall and found that they weren't even close to one another, so I brought it back to Gm and found what you found out. I took it home and adjusted to what I thougt was OK and as long as no one blinked their lights at me, it was probably OK.

I get blinked at all the time, so I think maybe mine are set too high, but I love the range they give me on the country roads I drive.

My low beams are just a little lower than I would like them. How easy is it to adjust them. Is it something I can do with out specialized tools?

I adjusted them once but forget. Just a Philips or star driver,,,,,,,,I think

On my 2004 with the NEW replacement headlights it takes a 7/32 Allen head wrench.
Open the hood and look through the triangle cut out hole on each side of the fender, where the back of the light would be.
You will see the adjustment screw pointed up at you through a black funnel. Just turn it 1/4 or 1/2 turn at a time.

I have the replacement headlights on my 04.. used the allen wrench to adjust them up.. a really simple adjustment. Thanks for the instructions guys.

Finally took my '05 out for a spin in the dark last night for the first time and about every third oncoming car flashed brights at me. When I got back up at the garage door the right one seemed way up and out to the right and my brights didn't seem exceptionally bright but they pretty much illuminated both sides of the road hunting for deer eyes. Should I fear taking this to a dealer for alignment or try it ourselves. Seems like there are so many headlight issues, sure don't want to open a can of worms here.

LinSue, I was having the same "High Beam" flash issue with on-coming traffic. On another string, we talked about it too. I did a check per the manual and they were actually perfect on alignment. I went ahead and dropped them a little (using instructions from the manual) and it seems to have reduced the "flashing" of other drivers. Understand that the zenon lights are just brighter than most and others just don't like them, no matter the alignment. XLR KEN

The headlamps are extremely bright, probably the most powerful on GM cars. If your car bouces up a bit and the headlamp cut off line goes up, it will get the incoming drivers attention for sure.
