They were kind enough to host the event. I also have been working with Allen Cadillac, MHT Wheels and Vogue Tyre on supporting this event. Should be a great event and lots of fun! We are expecting a great turn out and would love to see 75-100 Cadillacs. This will also be D3's Open House event.
I also Hired a Auto Photographer to shoot the event! He will have a portfolio to view and will be taking appointments for those of you who are interested in having a shoot of your ride!!

standby 06-17-2006, 11:02 AM Sure beats driving all the way to New Mexico but Hans and I did take her up to the limiter at 158 mph, twice, and 90 on the lower end of the Vegas strip, killing a 349 Ferrari..................However, Victorville, Ca helicopter caught us on the way in and the ground cop gave me a ticket for 1011 miph, that's right, 1011 mph. I know what he meant to right which was 101 but he didn't write that. I wonder if I can get that one thrown out? Will post seperate about the trip.

don't know how fast you were going....but 101 ticket is a slap in the face!
just getting you over that 100 mark which is a 2 point misdemeanor.
I would sure try to have it thrown out at 1011

I'll bet not. Not that I'm getting in your business, standby. But I would hire an attorney and do one of those "nolo contendre" plea bargains, and try to get it dropped from your record. Between that "1011" mph ticket and the accident last year, you may have trouble getting insurance....if that stays on your record!
At least that's how it would work in Texas. Two hickeys and "Bam!" Your insurance company drops you here.
But what a way to get a ticket, eh?
standby 06-20-2006, 06:10 PM Appreciate all the advice I can get Aviator, but in Ca. if you don't have a moving violation on your record in the last 18 months, you can spend a Saturday in driving class (inside)...........boring, and you don't get the points and it doesn't show on your DMV read out. I will be getting a lawyer just to look over the ticket and see if we can get it dismissed for erroneous information............couldn't hurt.

:nodno you can't get traffic school on over 100, and it's a two pointer, just like an accident is.
In Kings county, over 100 is an automatic DL suspension
standby 06-21-2006, 09:12 PM Damn, I think I better get that lawyer

Do you have a radar detector?
It's a great investment if you have an inclination for three digit speeds (like me).
standby 06-22-2006, 12:14 AM Yes, I have a Valentine-one in all my vehicles, which saved us 3 times on our trip to Albuquerque, but that damn helo was so high the detector wouldn't pick it up. Hans noticed it about a mile off the highway and we decounted it because it was so far away.WRONG CHOICE. I usually run at 85 no matter what the posted speed limit on the freeways, so I don't think I'll be running up in those numbers in this life time, especially in Victorville, CA.Do you have a radar detector?
It's a great investment if you have an inclination for three digit speeds (like me).
mswaim 06-22-2006, 12:24 AM Most of the choppers are not running radar, they "pace", a very effective techinique recognized by most of the state's traffic courts.
standby 06-22-2006, 09:29 AM That was my understanding too, but all lanes of traffice where very thick.
mswaim 06-22-2006, 09:39 AM Not sure if they still do it the same way, but in the old days it was the chopper that did the pacing. They used fixed objects of a known distance apart and timed you as you pass them. They then crunch the numbers and radio to a ground unit who issued the citation. Both the patrol officer and the spotter are required in court. With the new laser guns, it only takes a split second to determine a vehicles speed from just about any angle, moving or stationary.
standby 06-22-2006, 07:54 PM That's a bit of help to know that they mujst both be in court. Being vacation time, I could get lucky.
mswaim 06-22-2006, 08:26 PM You may try calling the court of record first (number on the ticket). Find out if an appearance is required, most courts require you to appear for anything over 100 mph, unfortunately that is the break point. Were you cited for the basic 22350 or the specific-for-100 and above 22348(b)?
The best way to tackle speeding tickets in CA is to request a Trial by Declaration, but you will need to check with the court clerk first to see if you can in this case.
standby 06-22-2006, 09:58 PM Unfortunately its the 22348 (b) Wouldn't you spend the money for an attorney if you where never in law enforcement?
I haven't had any tickets for 3 years and the 5 mile an hour crunch last 4th of July that no officer was involved, but I did send in notification to DMV that I had an accident with damage at $9,576 and only a steel chrome bumper for the other guy, with no injuries.

mswaim 06-22-2006, 11:35 PM It's a tough call Bob, I've been out of the business since '97 involved now in the private sector, but I still have many friends in the business. They tell me it is really up to the court of record, some are more leniant than others. Speed has become a big issue in CA, thanks to the Ricer crowd and their love for street racing.
Chippies (I assume it was a CHP officer who cited you) love their plus 100 citations so consulting with an attorney would most likely be prudent, but then again, you can try the Trial by Declaration first. If you don't have luck there, you can always move to a Trial de Novo. Bottom line - the world revolves around money. An average traffic cop will pull down about $300-$400 for an appearance for a traffic ticket. He will get nothing for filling out a Trial by Declaration form since there is no OT. Gee, which one do you think he will take seriously?????? Follow these links and do a Google search to learn what you can, the section you were cited for is a serious violation that can lead to very serious consequences since some insurance companies will drop you for a single violation of that section.

XLR I FL 06-28-2006, 02:33 PM standby:
If you didn't have that "helo in the sky" I'd shoot out there from Jax, Florida for the ralley and see you off to the slammer at the same time!!
I sure hope you get off of this one!!!
Regards
standby 06-28-2006, 07:14 PM Trust me, I'm paying dearly for an attorney. I probably could get it reduced 2 miles to 99 if in fact that's what the officer intended to write down instead of 1011 mph on my own merits.
Best bet is to play the game, the judge sees I'm paying out big bucks so he's happy. Lawyer says 98% chance he gets me off just with tons of paper work, like derogatory's, subpoena's, motions, etc. He will also try to get it thrown out for the erroneous MPH's in that speeding box. Last scenario is reduced to 80 in a 70 and and driving school, since I haven't been in 3 years. There is no jail time connected with this ticket.
Bob

Jetboyphx 06-28-2006, 09:57 PM Bob, are you going to the SoCal meet? I'm thinking of doing a day trip over.
standby 06-29-2006, 12:39 AM Kent,
I guess you'll see my answer on the rendesvous post, but yes I am. If your coming over on I-8, I-805 and up I-5, I could meet you around Mission Viejo at the La Paz exit, west side in McDonalds.
We can then go to the South Coast Shopping Center and meet with others and caravan to the sight. Don't forget to RSVP at

Bob, I'm going but since I live on the north end of town the I-8 route would add a couple of hours to the trip. Don't want to wake up that early :eek
I'll just head over on I-10 and see you there :cheers
standby 06-29-2006, 11:23 PM Ok Kent sounds good
XLR I FL 06-30-2006, 03:45 PM I hope you get off too!!!! Did you happen to seem my writeup on taking the traffic school thru Blockbuster and your PC?? Neat stuff.
Regards
Jerry
standby 06-30-2006, 07:02 PM Yes I did Jerry, I've ear marked the money to let the attorney handle it, I'm just afraid I'd catch the judge in a bad mood and not be able to get it broken down to a lessor charge.
Would you go to a Rally & tour at the plant in Bowling Green. KY if we got it going?
I hope you get off too!!!! Did you happen to seem my writeup on taking the traffic school thru Blockbuster and your PC?? Neat stuff.

Jetboyphx 07-16-2006, 12:17 AM What a great turnout, and we even snuck 7 XLR's into the crowd. :thumbs
Great seeing you again Bob and it was nice to finally meet Mike and Jim.
Definately worth the trip over. I kept the top down until Palm Spings on the way home. It got up to 122 and that was enough. Then 40 miles into Arizona we got a true monsson dust storm follwed by rain. Chain reaction accidents both direction on I-10 so I got to cool my heels for about 30 minutes until we started filing through the medium around the carnage.
I hope to make another one of these events later this year. Hope to see Mike and Jim at the Factory next year.
BTW Mike, good job showng the CTS-V the proper pecking order! :smash

Hi Kent,
Glad you are O.K. Those dust storms are terrible. I have gone through several while driving in New Mexico. Look forward to seeing you next year in Bowling Green.

Jetboyphx 07-16-2006, 01:04 AM A parting shot.
1_XLR 07-17-2006, 01:39 PM Great turnout for this meet 75+ cars ....mostly CTS and CTS-V, but pretty awsome what some of those guys have done to their cars and I never met a car show I didn't like....and we're all family! We did have 7 XLRs there too. Thanks to Allen Cadillac and GM for providing the raffle prizes. Kent and Jim both won a Tommy Bajamma shirt and I won a custom car cover....so the XLR guys scored well. Thanks to D3 Performance for the location and food. Great to meet the forum guys too..... Kent (Jetboyphx) Bob (standby) Jim (xlrjim):cheers
standby 07-17-2006, 06:45 PM The offer still stands, I'll be glad to pick that car cover up for you. :)
Boy, when you leave a party you really leave in a hurry. Kent is still wiping off clear coat from your car on that slip in maneuver. Wish I hadn't been putting in my home address on my nav system or I would have been in that mix for sure.
Nice to finally meet some of the guys on the forum. Keep in touch on that intake and the numbers.
Bob
Jetboyphx 07-17-2006, 11:51 PM :iagree
What impressed me was how many unique CTS's there were at the meet. Those guys really made their cars their own. Also a bit surprised by how many young guys and gals were at the meet. Cadillac has really lowered their average buyers age with the CTS.

xlrjim 07-19-2006, 11:38 PM Thanks for the pictures of the meet last saturday. It was good to meet Mike, Bob and Kent, fellow XLR owners. The weather was pleasant there, when I got back up to Valencia it was still 109 at 4PM.. Couldn't handle that heat with the top down even with AC on full and the seat coolers at hi. Kent I am suprized you made it to PS with the top down with out melting.
I am looking forward to the next meet.
Jim
standby 07-20-2006, 05:20 PM Hey Jim, Ditto all of that. Nice to put a face on people.
