I thought I'd be missing a manual and swapping with my wife to drive her CTS-v more often, but that 6L80 tranny rocks in all its modes. My XLR-v is black. Now, this is really BLACK paint on these cars, and it has all the headaches of modern clearcoated black paint. All I can say, for anyone in the same position, is -- No cotton towels; microfiber only; no towel drying, instead wash, rinse and evaporate with the Mr. Clean AutoDry filtered water system; wax is your friend. I swore I wasn't going to buy another black car, ever. But there it was looking like a solid block of polished onyx in the showroom. Gas hit $3.35 for premium here in L.A. But it's not a problem. I got 25.2mpg on a late night run of 75 miles at average speed of 82mph, last week. 18mpg in mixed city driving and 15mpg in 100% rush hour freeway creeping and climbing canyon roads. Other people uniformly like the car, so it's not socially polarizing and doesn't set people apart. That said, there have been a few times I've had to reluctantly show tailights to the ascot Euro-weenie set when they hadn't gotten the memo on The General building serious cars again. Phil | ||
