Troy Roberts 02-12-2003, 10:20 AM The XLR has two new features that mean you don't have to take your key out to get in and start the car.
Keyless Access: "As you approach the locked vehicle, sensors instantly recognize your Bulgari-designed key FOB even without retrieval from a pocket, purse, or briefcase. If all verification conditions are met, the door or trunk will unlock and then unlatch at your command."
Push Button Start: "After you enter the car, simply push the "start" button on the dash. In less than a second, the vehicle issues a challenge to your Bulgari-designed key FOB, and if all verification conditions are met, the engine starts. Press the "OFF/ACC" button, and the vehicle turns OFF, but retained accessory power is maintained until a door is opened."
I like the idea of this but part of me thinks that it will feel a little strange to just walk up, climb in, push a button, and go.

The hacker in me thinks it could be spoofed. But then I say that without knowing the details of the technological implementation.

MidLifeinMI 02-12-2003, 04:50 PM Didn't they have this on some of the early C5's? I recall reading stories of batteries going dead, because of fobs just on the edge of range (lock, unlock, lock, unlock, all night).
Rapid Roger 02-12-2003, 06:56 PM MidLife.....You are right.....The 97 and 98 C-5s had the auto unlock...When you got within range the car would unlock....I can remember standing in a friends garage when we heard clicking(The keys were inside the house) The clicking was the car locking and unlocking.Most folks I know who have this feature have deactivated it and I suspect the same problems will appear on the XLR....Maybe the bugs have been worked out by now tho.....:)

Yes, my 97 Corvette has it. My 2002 Trailblazer has it also, never had any problems with either of them as far as running the battery down but I deactivate them anyway, I just don't like the doors unlocking when I approach the car until I unlock them myself.

Supposedly what will happen is that the locks will only lock once and will only unlock once you physically touch a pad or handle. Thus preventing the lock/unlock issue.
Or so I heard.

Wouldn't that just be like hitting the button on the key FOB then? I mean if you have to touch something to make the door lock/unlock it wouldn't really be an "auto-lock/unlock" would it?:confused
