Hello

Hello everyone. I just picked up a 2006 XLR with about 91,000 miles. Great looking car. Also runs great. It does however have some issues. The first one is that after driving it about 50 miles the gas gauge drops to empty, even tho it has a full tank, and the service fuel system alert comes on the DIC. The seller told me this would happen and said it had been that way since he purchased it. I would like to take care of this. Any ideas? Also, where can I get a decent repair manual for this vehicle. Look forward to any replies.

Hello and welcome to the forum! You are now authorized to post in all the forum areas.

Erratic fuel levels are normally caused by either - Sulphur deposits on the gas tank sending unit, or a bad sending unit. I recommend running a bottle of Chevron Techron fuel additive through the fuel system the next time you fill up. It has about a 50% success rate at cleaning the Sulphur deposits off. It's worthwhile to use fuel system cleaner at least twice a year -especially with 91k miles.

As for maintenance manuals, you can't beat the GM factory Service manuals for the amount of detail they provide. Available at helminc.com

If you need to troubleshoot any kind of electrical problem involving any of the many interconnected modules in the XLR, you'll need to buy a Tech 2 scan tool. Nearly every troubleshooting procedure begins with running a diagnostic test. Google for the best price. You'll need a pre-programmed 32M card and a CANDi interface module. Usually, they come with everything - but not always. . .

Keep the questions coming!
